The original idea for a youth and children's chorus came from Dr. Mark P. Thomas as early as the mid -1990's. Thomas who was serving as the music director and conductor of the Schuylkill Choral Society saw the need for a youth chorus when students from local high schools inquired about joining a choir but were too young to belong to the adult choral society. During the first ten years of the new millennium three successful children's chorus concerts were organized in conjunction with the Schuylkill Choral Society. Following the success of these performances and overwhelming response from the community Thomas began discussions with his wife and community members in 2011 to bring an official youth chorus to the Schuylkill County area. In 2013 the Minor Notes Chorale was ready to begin a new chapter in the performing arts in Schuylkill County. The first public performance was May 3, 2014 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Since then the choir has performed as guest artists for both the Anthracite Philharmonic and the Schuylkill Choral Society. Each year they perform multiple performances throughout Schuylkill County including performances for the St. John's Orwigsburg Concert Series, Providence Place, and the Majestic Theater in Pottsville. The Minor Notes Chorale has also performed outside the Schuylkill County community with recent performances at the United Nations and Empire State Building in New York City, the PP&L Center in Allentown, the Wells Fargo Center, and Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia where they have performed God Bless America for the 76ers and the National Anthem for the Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies. The Chorale has also performed at workshops with members of the Broadway cast of Wicked and Phantom of the Opera.
